About the Doctors

Greg Miller, DDS, MS

“After nearly a decade in dentistry, having worked in some of the top offices in southern California, it is truly an exciting opportunity to be able to be a part of this practice and continue its standards and maintain its commitment to only the highest of expectations.”

Background and Community Service

Dr. Miller was born in New Jersey and raised in Miami, Florida, where he was a regular volunteer at the Special Olympics. After high school, he decided to return to the northeast to attend Cornell University, earning a degree in biology. Dr. Miller moved to the heart of New York City to attend dental school at Columbia University, where he was a member of the class council, as well as an active volunteer in the community, providing free dental care to homeless and displaced individuals throughout the city. Answering his desire to move to California, Dr. Miller received his orthodontic training, as well as a Masters Degree in Craniofacial Sciences, at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Always mindful of those less fortunate, he continued to provide free dental and orthodontic care to the homeless.

Research

During Dr. Miller’s tenure at UCSF, he was interested in gathering as much information as possible in order to provide appropriate care and to treat patients to the best of his ability. He therefore did extensive research into discovering new ways to use 3D x-ray technology to assess an individual’s growth, allowing for a more comprehensive treatment plan for orthodontic patients. This project, for which Dr. Miller was awarded a Masters degree, is expected to be published in both orthodontic and pediatric journals, adding to his repertoire of work that has been published in both scientific journals and industry newsletters.

Awards and Recognition

Throughout Dr. Miller’s educational career, he has been the recipient of numerous awards of achievement. Most notably, he has been inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, a prestigious position only available to the top students in each dental school. He has also been awarded numerous merit-based scholarships, fellowships, and research awards, as well as a few martial arts medals and trophies!

Personal Life

Dr. Miller and his wife, Dr. Kan, look forward to raising a family while still finding time to hike, ski, mountain bike, and to travel and explore places rich in culture and heritage.

Helaine Kan, DDS, MS

“I am truly honored to be a part of this orthodontic team where nothing short of excellence is expected. Having been fortunate enough to work in dentistry for nearly ten years in both northern and southern California, I’m excited to have the opportunity bring my experiences into this practice, in order to provide you and your families with the area’s most confident smiles.”

Education and Leadership

Dr. Kan was born and raised in southern California. She earned her Bachelors of Science (B.S.) in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology from UCLA (Go Bruins!!) and graduated Cum Laude. She then moved to San Francisco and attended dental school at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where she graduated at the top of her class. At UCSF she held an officer position in her class council throughout her time there as well as leading the American Society of Dentistry for Children. Having fallen in love with San Francisco, she stayed at UCSF and obtained her orthodontic specialty training and a Masters of Science (M.S.) Orofacial Science. She was elected and served as the treasurer of the UCSF orthodontic residency.

Community Service

Dr. Kan has always felt that community service is important in both community and personal development. During her college years at UCLA she organized and participated in numerous community health fairs, soup kitchens and sports programs for children. She regularly participates in providing dental and orthodontic care in community clinics, and is currently the chairperson of the Harbor Dental Society’s Community Outreach Program.

Research

Dr. Kan conducted two research projects in pursuit of her Masters. Her first research interest involved studying medical records of children with cleft lip and palate to discover better ways to predict future orthodontic treatment needs. Her second project involved the use of new 3D imaging technology to assess the airway as it relates to age, gender and craniofacial morphology. Both of these projects allow for a more complete treatment plan for patients with cleft lip and palate and for patients with airway impairment.

Awards and Recognitions

Dr. Kan is honored to have become inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) National Dental Honor Society which is a position awarded to only the top dentists in the country. She has also received the Qunitessence award in restorative dentistry, departmental honors at UCLA, and the Alpha Gamma Sigma college honor society.

Personal Life

Dr. Kan loves being in the mountains and the great outdoors. Her interest includes skiing, hiking, camping, backpacking, traveling and playing soccer.
